There is a tendency for people to look upon others who are homeless, addicted to drugs and alcohol, or in and out of crime, and blame them for the circumstances they're in. However, no one sets a goal in life to be homeless, addicted to drugs and alcohol, or incarcerated. At The Lighthouse, we understand every person who comes to us is on a journey with a unique story. We realize they did not set out to reach the lowest point in their lives, and we believe their lives can be restored through a relationship with "the Highest."
Jesus Christ commissioned His people to carry the Gospel throughout the world. Unfortunately, ministry to those who struggle with serious issues and have no place to go to seek spiritual enlightenment is particularly difficult for many churches. In the cities we serve, The Lighthouse has become a "bridge church" for men and women facing major obstacles on their way back to normalcy. We are uniquely prepared as a church to support and minister to others in a way that allows them to return to independent living and participate in the support community of their choice when they leave us. We eventually see those we served go into the world sharing their own stories of success and hope with others who are struggling and need help.
At The Lighthouse, we believe God can bring peace and healing to seemingly impossible situations. We believe there is hope for everyone, and every follower of Christ has an obligation to use their gifts to help improve the lives of others. Our programs include transitional housing, drug and alcohol recovery support, transportation, and a back-to-work program that prepares individuals to re-enter the workforce and pairs them with local employers who give them a chance to prove themselves.
The Nehemiah Program is intended to help individuals overcome addiction and return to their home communities sober, employed, capable of independent housing, and engaged in helping others as they were once helped. We believe we can help people re-enter society after imprisonment and make a meaningful contribution to their communities, and, over time, regain the trust of others. Our vision is to one day expand our Nehemiah Program to cities across the United States, as well as worldwide.
